Visible Learning
Manaiakalani Kaupapa : Visible. Can you see it or can you not?
Teaching and learning visible in the home, making whanau and teachers partners in the learning, and visibility between colleagues.
We need to challenge ourselves... what have we hung as teachers that have contributed to failure?
We have kept it hidden and secret from whanau and learners.
For too long success has gone to those learners that have to 'guess' what is going on in the teacher's mind.
What were the responses we guessed/predicted the teachers wanted?
Now we have to think about what parts of our information really need to be kept private? Not the everyday functioning of teaching and learning!
Think about lockdown.. the stuff on the classroom walls is useless! Online stuff is useable and accessible.
We need to limit passwords and barriers to make it accessible for all-Think about Mary during lockdown trying to get Alex's stuff, if it's too hard, too many steps she gets frustrated angry and gives up. lightbulb moment!
In my class many children cannot write their own name or recognise letters - so this is a barrier to them and becomes a barrier to me as I have do it for them- a waste of time for all.
Hapara Dashboard: Never let kids create folders! Teach them how to save in the right place. Quite often their work is stuck in the 'sharing' tab. If a child creates a folder it is hidden to the teacher.
Creating window-dressing that invites us to come in for more.
Think: Ballantynes Window
Google slides-click on the recorder icon it can take a video then save to your drive then magically appear on the slide- Mark will put the extension on today's agenda.
Good for recording books/instructions
GOOGLE SITES
Make sure you share with anyone that has the link.
Make sure you can get anywhere in 3 clicks or less.
EXAM HEADS UP- expected to make a site. Don't spend time making it pretty-just do the task! I can spend a lot of time searching for the perfect image or choosing the right colour/font instead of producing something finished.

Had a play with Dinosaurs as a theme.

I gave the five-minute challenge a go it only took 10 minutes! Yay!
During today I again witnessed being in the pit- I couldn't do something and I withdrew and became frustrated. I asked my colleagues for help which I received and was able to rectify my issue. The benefits of having people around you😊 and again feeling like a learner.
The creation of our class site needs to be a team effort in order for us to all to be able to understand how to create and use it.
Could I use a site for my Decodable Texts Group? If I could record my voice then it could have benefits.

The above are links for the 'voice recorder' and the 'record to slide extension'.
A real lightbulb moment today was thinking about how we create barriers for sharing learning. I thought about my sister trying to access her daughter's online learning during the lockdown. She didn't know how to download the extension thing required and then became grumpy with the whole process and didn't do it. There were too many steps! This related to our school site is there just too much stuff/ writing, does it need more images so that both children and whanau can use it? Was this a barrier during lockdown?
