Sites: Enabling Access

Making connections with people beyond just who we know.
Technology gives us the ability to connect in ways we haven't done before. Not just for learning but for the holistic checking in and well being of people.

We grow from each other in a community willing to share, listen, and help problem-solve.
You have to share to be connected-it's a two-way thing.
You need all four aspects of the kaupapa for connections to work.

SITES

Remember the 3 click rule!

Looking at other sites- what works well? - from the learners and whanau perspective? Remember the 'window dressing' from last week.

Feedback from our 'work in progress site' our next step is to link buttons to slides and to add a reading section.
Will we want photos of the teachers for reading or images about reading?
Need to add recordings of us reading instructions/books.
Look at Brogan's slides for her decodable texts- Lisa to create and steal from this idea. (Brogan said yes :)

I spent some time relearning how to add buttons - I put one on our reading page (need to get feedback from team around this).

It was interesting doing this as I was not 100% confident to go ahead and make changes and additions to our class site that I really have not created, it has been the work of my colleagues. So what I did was to add a page for reading with my button which I could easily delete from the site.

I thought about adding a timetable to the site. I had to think about what was the purpose of this? Would it be useful for whanau? Could we just add our weekly plan from out google docs? Does anyone care?
The colleagues in the group around me had positives and negatives about this. I am not sure either.

  1. Kia ora Lisa,
Well done on your button, and relearning today. It is interesting the thoughts you are having around adding a timetable to your site and the feedback from others. It is always good to reflect on the why or purpose of what we are doing. However I always think what harm is there in adding it? If someone wanted to see it and could not then you have let them down. If no one ever looks at it then what has is cost you, maybe 5 minutes adding it to your site (if it was already digital)?
I always had a copy of my timetable on the class wall and our site is just and extension of the classroom.
    Nga mihi,
    Mark
