Day 1 DFI Course

Well, today was my first DFI course day. Many of the teachers at school have completed this course and I have been seeing the benefits starting to be integrated in our studio. I was feeling apprehensive at first but as the day progressed I found that I was not as 'special needs' as I thought. Time will tell though 😀

Reflection of Day 1

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

That this has been around since 2006 and it came from a need and desire from whanau to have the same expectations for their children as others.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I didn't know the 'Explore' option was there and I can see the value of this. I also discovered the voice typing under the tools- Is this accessible on our i-Pads?

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

The 'explore' tool and the voice recording tool. I have heard mark talk about it before and didn't know where to find it.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Two of my team have previously completed this course and now I am starting to see what they are talking about. I can see how they have started using this in our class and now I may even be able to help construct some sites. Also knowing how to change the table border colour to match the background colour- legendary tip!

  1. Kia ora Lisa,

I am glad you got some new learning for the day. On an iPad the keyboard should have a microphone which students can use to dictate. We should have a wee trial and see if we can use it with Explain Everything.

    Nga mihi,
    Mark

    1. Thanks Mark,
I have just found your comments now- rookie mistake!
Yes let's have a wee play on the iPad to see if we can use it to dictate. It would be cool if they could use it for their ideas and writing.
